Why do they allow such cantankerous assholes announce sports? Every sport seems to have one and college basketball’s resident piece of shit is none other than the overly biased Billy Packer. Here’s how bad he is: I watch college basketball 3 weeks per year and I know who Billy Packer is and I can hear the disdain he has for every single team in the world besides the big time teams (not counting Kansas). Say what you will about Dick Vitale’s over the top schtick at least he loves the game for which he provides commentary.

Packer is unbearable. He roots against the underdog and he hates comebacks. Remember when UNC lead Kansas 38-12 in the Final Four two years ago and Kansas came back to win? Instead of marvelling at the comeback you got the impression that Billy was more angry that he was wrong when he said the game was over with 7 minutes remaining in the first half. I don’t enjoy listening to him but I’m sure he has some fans. Personally he reminds me of my least favorite baseball commentator for many of the same reasons. Read the rest of this entry »

I like how Durantula says he loves it in Oklahoma City and he doesn’t talk about his off-court business ventures or his focus on becoming a Global Icon. He’s honed in on making his team better, and at the same time making himself a better basketball player.

Good luck Daniel Murphy because it appears that so far in the Spring, friend of MLJ Ike Davis is demonstrating that the hype was not in vain. Though everyone expects Ike to start the season in AAA to keep him cost controlled longer, there are very few who doubt that he’ll be the starting first basemen by June 1st.

Jose Offerman, he of the famous baseball fight that fucked up the nervous system of another player was back in the news again this weekend after he punched an umpire in the face in a game he coached in the Dominican Republic.  That’s right, a man who was arrested for hitting another baseball player with a bat was arrested for punching an umpire.  In the face.  I guess the anger classes are working because he only used his hand this time instead of a large hunk of sculpted wood.

Who’s up for a quick summary?

The Giants were winning 6-0 in the third inning of the final game of the winter league semifinal playoff series when plate umpire Jason Bradley ejected catcher Ronny Paulino for arguing balls and strikes.

Offerman came onto the field to talk to Bradley, but ended up arguing with Rayburn.

Wha??? He didn’t even punch the right umpire?  He punched the guy who was trying to get him off the field to resume play?  Even his misplaced aggression is over the top.

Skynet Symphonic is a film montage made entirely of sounds from one of the greatest movies of all time, Terminator 2. It’s probably the greatest thing I’ve seen today, and not just because I’m an unabashed fan of Trance or House or whatever the fuck this kind of music is called.

This lonely fella was spotted after Sunday’s loss, presumably on his way home from a sports bar. I was going to ask what kind of friends would let a guy like this go home by himself in this condition but he clearly doesn’t have any friends.

The only positive right now is that it’s a good thing Mike Holmgren isn’t coach of the team anymore or else he’d be on every channel ripping the refs for another week or so.
