HOF Induction: Greatest Catches of the Decade, Buckeye Edition

Apparently there was some form of Hall of Fame announcering going on today, but MLB’s attempt to out-shout us will be denied.  Buckeye Nation (Me, Spence, and NickP), be proud as we salute the greatest catches in the history of the last decade’ish of The Ohio State University (and therefore, among the greatest catches in the history of football).

The Inaugural Class of the Hall of Fame of Greatest Ohio State Buckeye Catches* is comprised of exactly three catches:  Michael Jenkins, Jake Ballard, and Anthony Gonzalez. Jenkins preserved the National Championship season.  Ballard went Air Jordan on the Ducks, leading the way to a Rose Bowl win.  Gonzalez, sacrificing himself, kicked Michigan in the teeth with an amazing catch, down 2, with 45 seconds to play.

Note: All nominees must have received a minimum 3 votes from the Official MLJ HOF Election Committee.

Check Under the Couch for Change: The Silverdome is for Sale

Pontiac SilverdomeBest known for housing the hapless Detroit Lions as well as one of the most dirty teams in the history of professional sports -the Bad Boy-era Pistons – you can now submit your own bid to buy one of the most famous structures in Michigan.

When it opened in 1975, it was one of the most luxurious arenas in the world, hosting concerts by The Who, Led Zeppelin, Elvis and Michael Jackson. By the time it shut its doors in 2008, it was so old and decrepit that the only event anyone would have in it was a Kid Rock autograph signing.

Perhaps the most famous event to take place in the Silverdome was Wrestlemania III with the Hogan/Andre the Giant main event. It established an indoor attendance record of 93,173. I think that has since been broken, most notably by Cowboys Stadium.

Interested bidders should contact Dan Falls of Williams & Williams at 918-362-6558. Bids are due on November 12th.

Michigan Sucks-quitur

justinfeagin

Well…looks like the Rich Rod era is finally rolling in Michigan. And…well… looks like I’m going to bet online against them.

Gone are the days of Michigan Men, i.e. players of high integrity to go along with their on-field talents.  Out with the old, and in with the new era of Michigan Men…smurfish, untalented and, best of all, criminal masterminds!

Lets take the tale of unheralded, but mgoblog-hype’d recruit, Justin Feagin…

Feagin’s downfall started with a cocaine deal, detailed in U-M Department of Public Safety police reports. The coke deal ended with a U-M dorm room on fire, a fellow student headed for jail and Feagin back home in Florida.

Whoa.  But wait!  There’s more! Read the rest of this entry »

Inside Hunter Mahan’s 62

mahan

Like I alluded to in Quality Start, Hunter Mahan’s 62 yesterday was arguably the most impressive round of golf I have ever seen in my life.  Consider the following:

  • Again, this was at Congressional: Not some po-dunk bullshit course.  When asked about Mahan’s round, Tiger Woods said, “I don’t know what course he was playing.”  The pin positions were absurdly hard, and when you consider he made a WHOPPING 130+ feet worth of putts on THESE greens?  Shit son.
  • The next lowest score shot on Sunday was 66: By Vijay CheatypantsMcFrauderson (copyright 2008…or 2009, I don’t remember but anyways, it’s copyright, clown).  Tiger, Brandt Snedeker, Tiger-killer Nick O’Hern and investment guru Joe Ogilvie all shot 67.  When Vijay and Tiger, who were both firing on all cylinders, can barely match Mahan’s score under par FOR THE BACK 9…well, that’s special.
  • It was Sunday, not Thursday: Anthony Kim shot a sublime 62 on Thursday, but Thursday pin positions are MUCH easier to get to than the ones on Sunday.  I’d say Sunday’s pin placements brought twice as many hazards into play, especially in the final three holes.  Mahan was a balmy -4 through three rounds…-8 on Sunday alone.  That’s getting it done when you need it.
  • He was chasing, and passing some big names: Tiger Woods and Anthony Kim.  Vijay Singh.  One of the best college players in recent history, Bryce Molder, a guy with a bright future ahead of him.  US Open champ Lucas Glover.  Jim Furyk.  Young guns Brandt Snedeker, Ryan Moore and Danny Lee.  There are majors with a less glamorous leaderboard than that.

What Would Your Batting Music Be?

Don’t lie…we’ve all dreamed at one time or another of actually playing professional sports and coming out to a packed stadium to blaring music and screaming fans.  It’s human nature.

And the key ingredient to getting all pumped up and shit?  Having a song that truly introduces you as ass kicker par excellence and becomes a your signature shit.  All sorts of guys have music they’re associated with from Mariano Rivera coming out to “Enter Sandman” and Trevor Hoffman coming out to “Hell’s Bells” that charge up the crowd.  Then you have the strange ones like Travis Hafner, who for whatever reason decides to come to the plate to John Cena’s enterance music.  This is less funny than it is gay.

Anyways…what would be your song of choice when coming to bat?

Here are my two…

1. Iron Maiden “The Trooper”

2. Pink Floyd “Run Like Hell”

This is why Tressel is a GAWD in Ohio…

michigan_tressel

Today marks the 2,000th day since Michigan has last beaten Ohio State in football.  2,000 days…all the way back to November of 2003.  This is a truly epic day for Buckeye Nation, but one that Michigan fans must find hard to swallow.  In the most heated rivalry in college football, the momentum has shifted from one side to the other for stretches of time, aside from the 10-year war between Woody and Bo where things were relatively even.

But ever since Tressel and his sweatervest arrived in Columbus, the two programs couldn’t be farther apart.  During Michigan’s last stretch of dominance, over John Cooper, the Buckeye teams that were beaten by the winged helmeted fags were loaded beyond belief with NFL talent.  This is why John Cooper was so maligned, because he had the teams to beat Michigan, but the Wolverines always took the game more seriously.

Paulus to Michigan?

paulus

Yes please.

See, there’s nothing I like more than watching some asshole get his shit kicked in.  Greg Paulus is an asshole.  An epic asshole.  An asshole so legendary that even fans of the team he plays for avoid rooting for him like the plague.

Now, I’m not going to talk about any on-field stuff here, because we all know how that’d go…he sucked at Duke and he’ll suck at Michigan.  QB is the hardest position to play because of all the mental stuff so a big layoff like Paulus has had is pretty impossible to overcome, even for a highly regarded high school recruit.  Success is not an option here, especially at Michigan, where the program is the smoldering wreckage of a once nice but incredibly douche-tastic private jet.

There are two reasons I want this to happen…one selfish and one historic.
