Quality Tip Off: Hump Day

I know you’re all wondering if Stigs (me) would show up this morning.  Well, I’m here baby and ready to give you some quality game recaps fo dat ass:

Suns 99, Knicks 126: The god awful Knicks snapped a 5 game losing streak by destroying Coach D’Antoni’s former team.  The offense that Coach D’s old Suns team used to produce showed up for the Knicks last night.  The Suns, who had the best record in the league, were led by Steve Nash with 20 points and 8 assists.  Jared Dudley had 7 rebouonds for the Suns.  The Knicks were led by Gallinari who had 27 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists.

Warriors 107, Nuggets 135: You thought the Knicks/Suns game was ugly.  Well it was.  This game got real ugly in the second quarter when GS, who led 28-25 after 1Q, was outscored 44-27.  Denver had 7 players in double digits in scoring.  Carmello led the team with 25 points.  Hilario chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Morrow led Golden State with 27 points.

Hornets 99, Lakers 110:  New Orleans continues to struggle  with Chris Paul sidelined with an injury.  If he was playing, I’m not sure he would have done anything to stop LA’s Andrew Bynum from having his way in the post.  He dropped in 21 points and grabbed 9 boards.  Kobe also scored 18 for the Lakeshow.  New Orleans was led by Emeka Okafor with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Quality Tip Off: Jump Ball!!!

Thunder 100, Heat 87: I took in last night’s OKC Thunder at Miami Heat game, and to say I was disappointed would be fair.  The Heat had 16 turnovers and shot about 6% from the field.  In  addition to bad shooting from the field, they missed 10 free throws.  Christ, they’re free.  You’re in the NBA.  Make your free throws.  The Heat disappointed but the Thunder impressed.  Kevin Durant looked really good, not surprisingly.  He had 32-9-6 and was 9-9 from the stripe.  Also impressing for the Thunder was Russell Westbrook and Jeff Green.  They have 3 really young All-Star caliber players.  This should be a fun team to watch for years to come.

Suns 111, Rockets 105: The offensive juggernaut of the Phoenix Suns started slow, but could not be stopped when it counted.  They moved to 10-2 on the backs of Amare and Nash.  Amare scored 23 while grabbing 6 boards and dropping 4 dimes.  Nash chipped in with 16 assists and 12 points.  Jason Richardson scored 20 points in the win.  Milwaukee native Carl Landry led the Rockets with 27 and 9.  He’s turning into a way better player than I ever thought he would.  Aaron Brooks had 13 assists for Houston in the loss.

Memphis 55, Kansas 57: Remember that fetch kid?  I’m guessing he’s loving the fact that Kansas fended off the upset against the bare Memphis Tigers.  Cole Aldrich, Pres. of NAMBLA, had 18 points and 11 rebounds last night.  I really hate that guy.

Gonzaga 71, Michigan State 75: On a night that almost saw #1 Kansas upset by Memphis, #2 Michigan State almost went down too.  With the win, Michigan State has now won 41 straight games at home against non-conference opponents.  Durrell Summers led Sparty with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

Duquesne 52, Iowa 50: Iowa is now 0-2 with losses to Duquesne and Texas-San Antonio.  Jesus.  Jesus Christ.

Quality Tip Off

Could these guys be the next Lopez or OBannon brothers?

Could these guys be the next Lopez or O'Bannon brothers?

College basketball has quietly started up and like every year, it takes a while for people to notice.  One has to ask, without stars Tyler Hansborough and Stephen Curry, will college basketball ratings shrivel up to nothing?  I know one idiot blogger who probably thinks so.  Anyways, there was no college games last night, but I was watching CBB on Monday and thought about this.

With no games played at the college level last night, lets flip a 180 and take a look at some scores from the NBA last night:

Wizards 76, Heat 90:  The Heat were down for most of this game but they were up when the game clock said 0:00 and the final buzzer sounded.  Dwyane Wade scored 29 of his 41 in the second half to lead his team to victory.  It is the second time Wade has scored 40 against the Wiz this season in 2 times they played.  Wade also had 5 boards, 5 assists and 3 steals.  Arenas led the Wizards with 21 points and Haywood chipped in with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Nuggets 90, Bulls 89:  This game wins the award for wildest ending in the NBA last night.  Chauncey Billups made a go-ahead free throw with less than a second to play.  The Bulls rebounded the second FT and called a time out with 0.3 left on the clock.  The ball was inbounded to Brad Miller (for his only 2 points) who hit a runner from about 18 feet.  The Bulls players and fans went wild.  The refs looked at the replay for nearly 10 minutes, eventually ruling that the shot did not count.  Miller’s two points were taken off the board and the rest is history.

Thunder 98, Kings 101:  Jason Thompson fucked around and got a double double last night with 21 points and 14 rebounds for the Kings.  Tyreke Evans had 20 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists.  Three other young players scored in double digits for the Kings.  They have a pretty good young squad.  They improved to 4-4 on the year, their first .500 record since December of 2006.  Durant led the Thunder with 37 points, including 18-18 from the charity stripe.  Durant hit a 3 with 4 seconds left to pull within 1 point but Tyreke Evans hit 2 free throws to put the game away.

Quality Tip Off: Lamar “Clutch” Odom

Hey Lamar, who paid you to airball that free throw?

Hey Lamar, who paid you to airball that free throw?

Lakers 101, Thunder 98 (OT):  I was at work late last night, but I got home just in time to catch the end of the Lakers/OKC game.  I walked in and the game was already on with Lamar Odom at the line for 2 with the Lakeshow up 3 and about 10 seconds left.  I heard him miss the first one, as I was getting water or something.  I sat down right in time to see him airball the back end of his free throws that would have sealed the game.  I burst into laughter and even rewould it 3-4 times.  Shouldn’t 100% of NBAers be able to hit rim or backboard on 100% of free throws.  Anyways, I didn’t have a rooting interest but after that miss, I was hoping OKC would push it up the court and make a 3 to push the game to a second OT.  Who am I kidding, I had a rooting interest?  Fuck the Lakers.  I heard Durantula getting criticized for something after the game.  Maybe someone will enlighten me in the comments as to what he did wrong.

Cavaliers 102, Wizards 90:  Lebron and the Cavs have rolled off 3 straight wins since starting 0-2.  They are now playing like a team who will exit the Playoffs before getting rings, just like we all thought they would.  Lebron had 27pts, 8 boards and 6 dimes in the win.  Agent Zero and Caron Butler led the Wizards with 22 each.  Arenas also chipped in 7 boards and 5 assists.

Heat 96, Suns 104:  I saw my buddy who is a big Heat fan this morning and I asked him what happened in the 4th last night.  He responded with the words “Steve Nash couldn’t be stopped.”  The Suns came out in a new zone that held the Heat to just 35% shooting in the second half.  Nash scored 25 of his 30 points in the final 24 minutes.  He also led the team with 8 assists while Grant Hill led them with 12 rebounds.  Wade led the Heat with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists.  The Suns move to 4-0 while the Heat fall to 3-1.

Bucks 81, Bulls 83:  Luol Deng finally played like the player everyone though he would when the harvested him from wherever it is that he came from.  He had 24 points and 20 rebounds last night in the win.  I guarantee that this is the best game by anyone named Luol that we’ve seen all season.  Brandon Jennings led the Bucks with 25 points, 1 rebound, 4 assists and 2 steals.  Milwaukee falls to 1-2 while the Bulls go to 2-2.

Quality Tip-Off

The NBA got under way last night and needless, we have some frauds and some contenders.  Let’s take a look at the scores from last night’ s games.

Fraualiers 89, Celtics 95: Cleveland played 41 regular season home games last year and only lost 2.  They haven’t won any this year.  FRAUDS!!  Rasheed helped the big 3 last night, chipping in 12 points.  Pierce led his team with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  For Cleveland, Lebron had 33 points, 8 assists and 4 rebounds.  Shaq grabbed 10 boards.  We’ll see what happens but it’s not looking good for the Believland Cavaliers.

Wizards 102, Mavericks 91: I saw Illformula’s status update on FB saying that the Wiz look really good.  I figured he was being sarcastic, until I flipped on their game.  By the way, is the NBA Season Pass Preview fucking sweet.  Agent Zero dropped in 29 points and 9 assists for the first place Wizards.  Dirk grabbed 34 points and 9 boards for Dallas in the loss.

Blazers 96, Rockets 87: Tough night for the Texas teams.  It’s going to be a long season for the Rockets.  Aaron Brooks led their team with 19 points while Carl Landry led them with 5 boards.  They’re going to be missing Yao real soon.  Portland, who I think could get that 3 seed in the West, looked really good last night.  Travis Outlaw appears to be a real good role player.  Could this be the season that Brandon Roy gets past second tier to an elite player.  I think so.

Lakers 99, Clippers 92: Clown’s other favorite team won last night so don’t feel too sorry for him.  Not only did they win, but they were given their World Championship Rings from last year.  Kobe had 33 and 8 while Andrew Bynum grabbed 13 boards and 26 points.  Eric Gordon led the Clippers with 21 points and 4 assists.  That kid is really exciting to watch.

Quality Snap: Donovan Has Been Decent for a Long Time

Iggles 27, Skins 17: Did anyone really expect the Washington Redskins of Landover, MD to beat the Eagles, who actually play in the city they’re supposed to.  I know we’ve had this debate before, but what is with teams playing in cities outside of their namesake?  Giants/Jets?  Cowboys anyone?  There has got to be some other ones too.  Cheese and rice people.

Anyways, back to the game.  Donovan McNabb eclipsed the 200 TD mark and the 30,000 yard mark last night.  Desean Jackson, future HOFer, had 2 receptions for 69 yards and a run for 67 yards that he scored on.  He did carry the ball past the goal line of each of his TDs so it looks like he’s learning something.

Philly’s defense was very tough last night.  They sacked Jason Campbell six times and ran back a INT for a TD.  They also forced 3 fumbles.  They weren’t perfect though, allowing J.C. to throw for 2 TDs, one to Fred Davis and the other to someone else.  In the end, Philly beat a really bad Washington team.  I’m still not ready to forget Philly losing to the Raiders last week.

Under the Lights: Playoffs are here

Playoff baseball starts today and the Phillies put a whoopin the Rockies.  Last I looked it was 5-0 andddd… (checks score) we’ve gone final at Phillies 5, Rockies 1.  Clifford Lee got the W today pitching a gem.  He pitched a CG and allowed 6 hits and struck out 5.  Jayson Werth was… fuck it.  Go read Gonzo’s live blog if you want to know what happened in this game.

Up next are the Twins at Yankees.  When I get home, I will be watching this game.  See, I’m totally on board with the Yankees.  I think they roll right over the Twinks to face Boston in the ALCS.  That should be a great series but I think the Yankees pull it out in 6.  Whoever reps the NL in the World Series is getting swept by the Bronx Bombers.  The NL teams are laughable.  All of them.  Except for maybe the Phillies.  CC Sabathia starts tonight for Yankees and Brian Duensing starts for Minnesota.

Tonight’s baseball nightcap consists of the Cardinals at Dodgers.  I saw some highlights of the final weeks of the season for the Cardinals and it looked like a baseball bloopers video.  Their fielding has completely fallen apart.  Even Albert Pujols swung through a ball and launched the bat into the stands.  On the other hand, the Dodgers pitching is pretty awful.  I refuse to believe Randy Wolf is what he has been for this season.  Kershaw is really good but the Dodgers will throw Vicente Padilla out there for game 3.  Laugh amongst yourselves.  Vicente Padilla.  Really?  This series should be a real snoozer.

Quality Start: Twins Win

There was an awesomely exciting baseball game in the AL last night, but some news before we get to that:

Michael Crabtree and the 49ers appear to have finally reached an agreement.  It looks like the holdout gained pretty much nothing.  At 3-1, the Niners sit atop the NFC West.  With the addition of Crabtree, things will only get better.  This guy has the skills to improve any team.  Fantasy football players, go scramble to pick him up NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Less than a week after Braylon punched a friend of Lebron’s and acted like a baby, he has been shipped out.  All it took was sucker punching a guy to get moved from AIDS ridden Cleveland to New York.  I bet he wished someone would have told him that a long time ago.  For fantasy reasons, this is a good thing for players who own Edwards.  The Sanchise will have another talented target to throw the ball too.  I’m might finally believe that the Jets might be a decent team now.

Now about that baseball game:

Twins 6, Tigers 5 (12): Once again, there was a really exciting play in game in MLB.  I was mostly watching Rehab and flipping to the game.  Every time I had the game on, something wild was happening.  I think I saw 3 chances for the Twins to win the game before they actually did in the 12th.  There was a line out to short and a runner was doubled off first.  There was the blooper to Rayburn that got past him to the wall and allowed Kubel or some other lumberjack look alike to reach third with no outs.  A pinch runner was thrown out at the plate by Rayburn trying to score the winning run.  I saw bases loaded with 1 outs for the Tigers and Inge got hit by a pitch.  Then the ump said he didn’t get hit by a pitch.  All in all, it was a great game.  The Twins won the AL Central and celebrated like champions.  The Twins now travel to New York where they will lose the Yankees while Miguel Cabrera heads to a bar and the rest of the Tigers go home.  Bring on the playoffs.

Under the Lights

Someone looks a little, umm, upgraded.

Someone looks a little, umm, upgraded.

Tonight debuts the new season of the RW/RR Challenge.  I was trying to remember what happened at the end of the last challenge, but I can’t remember for the life of me.  It’s one of those shows that is awesome and entertaining while it’s on, but when it’s over, it’s out of sight, out of mind.  No way was I doing research about what happened on that challenge either.  That would make me king of the no ball pussy losers.  They already have a king.  It’s Roman.

This season is called the Ruins, which I can only assume means it will ruin relationships, morale, and what little dignity these people have left.  Tonight’s debut episode starts at 10pm (ET) and runs 90 minutes on MTV.  I can’t wait to see what hilarious dance they do for the intros on this season.  Also, I wonder if CT will punch someone’s face in this episode or early in the next.

Another show on tonight is Modern Family.  It airs at 9pm (ET) on ABC.  It’s about a family led by the father (Ed O’Neil) and his hot young latina wife, her young son, O’Neil’s daughter and her family and O’Neil’s son and pillow biter boyfriend.  Last week’s season premiere was funny so I’ll give it another week.

Of course, if those shows aren’t your thing, there is still baseball played by all teams for another week or so.  Here are some games you might want to check in on: Read the rest of this entry »

Quality Start: Hot AL Central on AL Central Action

Only Superman can do this

Only Superman can do this

There was some hot man on man action going on in the AL Central last night and it started with a slobberknocker of a rain delay in Cleveland.  It’s like nothing goes right for Cleveland sports.  On a good note, the NBA got started up this week so look for fans to transition nicely to cheering for Lebron, Shaq and the rest of the Cavs.  Sox and Indians will play two games today.  Former star of That 70’s Show Danny Masterson will be pushed back and will start game two of the double header.  Carmona will start game 1.  Remember when he was really good?  No one cares who is pitching for the White Sox.

The real action came in Detroit where they played a day/night double header because of a rain out the day before.  The Tigers entered the day with a 2 game lead on the division.  With a sweep, Detroit could have tied up the division and really gave us a great playoff race to watch.  Let’s see if it happened:

Game 1:  Twins 3, Tigers 2 (10):  Game 2:  Twins 5, Tigers 6: The Twins got their big shot yesterday to tie up the race in the AL Central.  It reminds me of the big shot that (SPOILER ALERT!!) Read the rest of this entry »
