If someone sends you an email claiming they were mistreated at a charity game when they tried to get Muhammad Ali’s autograph and was physically and verbally assaulted by the head coach of a Division I baseball team, sirens should go off in your head. And those sirens should not be the kind that say, “we need to post this shit right now!”  Alas, Deadspin went in the opposite direction and gave Pat Murphy the “worst coach in the world title” only to retract it a day later.

The reasons the sirens should go off is because they involved the following phrases or buzzwords:

  • Grown man who still collects autographs: this one’s a no brainer.  If an autograph hound is involved, I don’t care if the guy has video of Pat Murphy holding him down while a security guard teabags him, I’m taking the side of Pat Murphy.  Adult autograph hunters are the worst people in the world.  Even worse than Nazis.
  • Muhammad Ali doesn’t really do the autograph thing anymore what with his crippling Parkinson’s and all.  Maybe we might give the people who are trying to prevent this asshole from busting the Champs balls the benefit of the doubt?
  • ASU security?  The event was at Scottsdale Stadium.  I turned down tickets because I had to hang out with Grandma.  ASU has jurisdiction at Packard Stadium I guess but they have about as much authority in Scottsdale as the Emancipation Proclamation prior to the end of the Civil War.*

In summation, what the fuck is going on at Gawker anymore?

*History burn!
