Greatest of Mornings my fellow lovers of the naughty written word. What a game last night! Really, it was terrific. I fucking hate the Yankees. I despise them actually but they played a compelling Game 2 last night against the Angels. I find it weird living in a world were Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez is clutch and a “True Yankee’” (/vomits) but here we are. Last night in the 11th, I thought I was going to go to bed. Chone Figgins got his first hit of the Postseason (Holy Balls, really?) and drove in the go ahead run. I felt secure in A-Hole, Freddy Guzman and Brett Gardner not doing shit against Brian Fuentes. In the olden days, like 2008, Fuentes would pitch around A-Hole and A-Hole would be tight as a drum, try to force things and strike out or pop up. Well, in the newen days, that shithead puts together good At-bats and stays relaxed. On an 0-2 count, for some reason known only to Brian Fuentes, he put a fast ball near the plate, A-Rod drove it to the opposite field and because he plays in a joke of a bandbox, it flew over Bobby Abreu’s glove and into the first row of the right field bleachers. Really, another great moment heading for a World Championship.
In the 13th, Jerry Hairston Jr. came off the bench to get a hit. Brett Gardner sacrificed bunted him to second. Robinson Cano was walked and then Melky Cabrera hit a grounder to second that was to Macier Izturis’s left side. He tried to throw to second to start a double play that wasn’t really to be had, threw the ball past Erick Aybar and Chone Figgins mishandled the overthrow allowing Hairston to score from second. In a game with some great fielding and great pitching an error an poor decision ended it. Izturis has to get the out at first. It would make it 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs and Jorge Posada coming up. Ervin Santana was throwing well so that would have been the proper choice. Instead he put the ball in harms way and everything I just said happened. The Yankees won 4-3 and lead the ALCS 2-0.
All of this leads me to my point of the day, brace yourselves, we are about to live in a world where the Yankees are the World Champions and their fans will be unbearable with their sense of entitlement. Why do I feel this way? Well besides A-Rod’s “True Yankee” moments (/vomits) their pitching, especially their bullpen, has been wonderful. Truly, it is no longer the Great Rivera and a pile of shit. These guys can pitch. Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes are the Yankees top two young arms. That right there should be enough, but add guys like Phil Coke, Alfredo Aceves and David Robertson who aren’t intimidated and can get themselves out of trouble, then you have a solid pitching staff. This is what the high payroll Yankees have missed since 2000. Brian Cashman has looked to fill the bullpen with a veteran reliever who used to close in the 8th (i.e. Tom Gordon, Steve Karsay and Kyle Farnsworth) and some organizational guys. Their problem was they overpaid for the washed up veteran and their organizational pitching blew asshole. Now, they have it. And that makes this even more scary. These guys are building a nucleus that could make the Yankees a problem for an extended period of time. Even with Mariano getting older, he shows very little signs of age. When it is finally the day Mariano is no longer Mariano, Joba will be the closer. I think the Yankees see that now. The question is, can Joba be 80% of Rivera? There is no way he is the whole thing. That is impossible. If he is, we are fucked.
So while I get myself sick thinking of a Yankee World Championship, here are the other things that happened yesterday.
Purdue 26 Ohio State 18: If Ohio State is not the Mayors of Fraud City on Monday, than that election is fixed. Terrell Pryor should have put “Marcus Vick” on his eyeblack instead of “Mike Vick” because at this point he wishes he was as good as Marcus. We all kill sometimes, and in Terrell’s case he kills the Buckeye fan base at least once a month.
Other happenings in minor league football, Alabama crushed South Carolina, USC beat Notre Dame in a game I could give a shit about, Florida held on against Arkansas and of course Michigan showed it’s resilience by bouncing back after a tough loss to Iowa and beating arch rival Delaware St 63-6.

Hockey is also being played. In honor of that, the Islanders lost again. Matt Moulson is looking like a good wing, Kyle Okposo is rounding into a good two way player and John Tavares is going to be great. The rest of the team is young. And by young, I mean their best attribute is their age because they certainly don’t have talent. If you care to see any of the scores click here.
Big day in the National Football League, with the New York Football Giants ready to storm the Superdome. It will be the first time a storm of this magnitude hit New Orleans since 2005. What, too soon?
Enjoy the games.
