Strassburg is known as a once-in-a-lifetime uber-prospect and was the #1 pick in the draft. It was believed that Communist Boras (who works for Strasburg), was holding out for a $50 million dollar package, which is totally ridiculous. I mean you only give that to pitchers out of the Japan League – where the quality of play is even below National League standards – and they must’ve had a flukey performance in the World Baseball Classic. Strasburg will make almost make as much money per annum than Frank Catalanotto. Seriously, the nerve!
In other news, draft bonuses have held steady for ten years now, even though MLB’s revenues have doubled in that time and now match NFL revenues. Meanwhile, no one bats an eye that JaMarcus Russell was a number 1 pick in the NFL Draft two years ago and he signed a 6 year/$68 million ($31.5 million guaranteed) contract for basically having a good bowl game against an overrated Fighting Irish squad. Good times.
