Cardinals 12, Mets 7: Last night, Albert Pujols smacked 4 hits including two home runs. One was a 10th inning grand slam, his 5th Salami of the year. This was how he choose to come out of an 0-13 slump, showing why he’s the best player in the game. In other surprising news, the sun came up, people in Boston are racist and I’ll be sweating by the time I sit at my desk this morning.
Joel Piniero scattered 11 hits over 5 innings, resulting in all 7 runs the Mets scored. He struck out 0 and walked 0 guys. Reyes, Wellemeyer, McLellan and Ryan Franklin pitched the final 5 scoreless innings for the co-first place Cardinals. Johan Santana pitched 8 innings for the Mets and left the game with the lead. He gave up 9 hits and 5 ER while striking out 6 and walking 0. He allowed a solo shot to Pujols and to Ryan Ludwick. In the 9th, Frankie Rodriguez came in and puked up the lead, blowing his 4th save of the season. Sean Green (not a Jew) was the lucky soul to face Pujols with the bases loaded and served up the grand slam. Pedro Feliciano got the loss.
Albert, this video’s for you:
Brewers 4, Dodgers 17: The Dodgers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, allowing me to go to bed at a very early age. Call me a bad fan, but after seeing that first inning, I knew there was no reason for me to watch that game and stay up til 1 am. Gallardo looked tired and slothy on the mound in the first inning. Gallardo temporarily turned it around, pitching 3 scoreless innings until Manny homered in the 5th. The Brewers had cut the lead prior to 4-3 prior to the home run, but it would blow open after that. El Doyers scored 7 in the 6th and 5 in the 8th while Milwaukee scored only one more run in the 8th. Matt Kemp had 4 hits and 5 RBIs, including his 15th homer of the season.
Yankees 5, Blue Jays 3: The Yankees got offensive production for the meat of their line up, with Damon, Tex and A-Rod each having a pair of hits in the victory. Pettitte pitched well giving up only 1 run on 4 hits and 4 walks. He struck out 6 guys. Damon, Teixeira and Matsui all homered for the Bombers. Halladay pitched a CG for the Blue Jays, scattering 10 hits and striking out 5. Ya can’t win em all Roy.
Red Sox 2, Rays 4 (13): Jon Lester labored through 6 innings, throwing 110 pitches but doing it efficiently. He allowed only 1 run and struck out 10. He allowed only 3 hits. Matt Garza pitched equally as well for the Rays, pitching 7 innings and also allowing only 3 hits. He gave up 2 runs and struck out 6. The Rays bullpen pitched 5 scoreless innings before until Longoria smacked his second home run of the night in the 13th inning off Takashi Saito. It was a walk off two run homer. It complimented his four strikeouts nicely.
