Let me premise this by saying that I’ve always like Amare Stoudemire’s offensive game. He’s a great finisher at the rim due to his explosive speed and footwork which is complimented by his mid-range game that has developed into a dependable shot that has to be guarded (which, again, allows him to drive past slower defenders). I will not comment on his poor defensive skills which have improved somewhat but are still piss poor. I will also admit to having opposed the idea of trading Amare for KG two or three years ago before he ended up in Boston (mostly because KG’s a bitch). I could even go so far to say that at one point I was a big fan of Amare’s.
But since then, that dude has gone off the deep end.
A bit of background for those of you who are unfamiliar: his father died when he was 12, his mother has been in and out of jail since then. His brother is in jail for armed robbery and he claims to have only gotten through High School without any problems because of his faith in God. Even an areligious jerk like myself won’t mock that because you do what you do to get by.
BUT…
Lately, he’s become odd if not batshit crazy. He seems to crave drama on a level that few athletes have attained. On Twitter he’s taken to quoting Sun Tzu and has even proclaimed that: “Stat is Dead, Reincarnated as Sun Tzu.” Sun Tzu? Really? Besides being the most cliched book ever written, “The Art of War” is so dated that it’s only referenced by retards and people trying not to seem like they’re retarded. It’s hard for me as a non-retard to root for someone that stupid even if he’s on my favorite basketball team.
But that’s not all. He’s taken to psyching out Suns fans over routine surgeries (he had his eye drained which is standard follow up to his detached retina).
Is this a good idea when he’s looking for a contract extention? He’s never been a fan favorite because of his seemingly selfish behavior and adding this oddness to the mix isn’t going to help create a fan mandate to hold on to him after he becomes a free agent.
