The season is only 1 game old, but here’s what we know now:

  • CC Sabathia is going to suck this year. Have you seen his ERA? It’s up over 12. I’m sorry but didn’t the Yankees pay this guy nearly $1 billion to be their ace? What kind of ace has an ERA over 12? What a silly signing this was for the Yankees.
  • Mark Teixeira is also going to suck. Check out this line: .000/.200/.000. Am I to believe that a guy making nearly $75 million this year can’t get his OBP over .200? For that kind of money, he should be near .400 at all times. Admittedly I missed the boat as well on Teixeira as he was my 1st pick in fantasy. What a shame. Some of the experts were predicting the Yankees would win the AL East, but it’s not looking so good right now.
  • Adam Lind is the best player in baseball. I hate admitting this, but Alfonso Soriano is 2nd best.
  • The White Sox and Royals are the class of the AL Central.
  • David Wright likes to bang doods.

Okay so that’s 4 things we learned and 1 we already knew.

In other news yesterday, the Dodgers announced that they have cut ties with former top prospect Greg Miller. I’ve been following Miller’s career since 2003 when it was rumored that the White Sox were involved in trade talks that would have sent Paul Konerko to the Dodgers in exchange for Miller and/or Edwin Jackson. At the time, Konerko was going through one of the worst hitting slumps of his career while Miller and Jackson were considered two of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball, so I probably knew there was little truth to the rumors. But of course I continued to follow Miller’s career just for scuz.

Miller was just 18 in 2003 when he dominated high A-ball and AA, combining to go 12-5 with a 2.21 ERA in 25 starts. He only gave up 118 hits in 142 IP while striking out 151. But he ended up missing all of 2004 due to injury. A couple surgeries on his shoulder later and he was never able to regain the promise he showed as an 18-year-old. In 2008 in AAA, he walked 63 batters in 53 innings. I think if given the chance, I could do better than that. In spring training this year, he did much of the same, so the Dodgers were forced to pull the plug.

I’ll still have a front-row seat to watch Edwin Jackson’s 2009 trainwreck with the Tigers, but it’ll be nice knowing that I no longer have to follow Miller. It’s tough enough keeping up with my own team’s prospects.
