Good Morning Jerks and Jerkettes. A Super Bowl has passed and we are a mere 14 days away from pitchers and catchers. We here at MLJ congratulate the World Champion Pittsburgh Steelers (except for Hef, Spencer, Rex, clown, Nick P, Gonzo, CRM, Fetch, Muriel and possibly Happy) on their victory. Last night’s Super Bowl was certainly not one for the ages but it was very entertaining and might I say weird. First off, way too many penalties for the Cardinals including a ton of Personal Fouls that were justified. It derailed any sort of first half momentum they were trying to gain. James Harrison. In one Super Bowl he made a spectacular play and a contemptible one. The spectacular, of course, was an interception on a terrible play call and pass that went 100 years and Harrison earned every yard. Truly a great play. The contemptible is the Personal Foul on the Punt that put the Steelers on the half yard line. Not that the penalty was bad but Harrison looked cheap and made me a bit sick. He had his man blocked in a defenseless position.  Then, as the Cardinal player is getting up, he pushes him over for no reason. Really? What are you doing? The guy wasn’t even in a defensive stance. It was cheap. No place for it.

The game was great for wide receiver play. Santonio Holmes was fantastic. Larry Fitzgerald was All-World. Anquan Boldin returned to form. Both quarterbacks looked better for it. Both of them, by the way, looked very good and very bad all at once. I guess that is in their nature. I want to go on record and say Willie Parker is a raging pussy. Really. I have never seen a running back more afraid of contact and I witnessed Barry Sanders entire NFL career. At least Barry had the ability to escape contact. Fast Willie just lays down like a dog. All of this is just my thoughts on the game as is most peoples.

First Ballot Hall of Famer for Fetch.

First Ballot Hall of Famer for Fetch.

One sticking point for me came with 5 seconds left. Kurt Warner’s game ending fumble. I need to know if me and the 4 guys I watch football with are the only ones who thought this. After everything that has happened this season. After every blown call and useless booth review, how is it deemed that Kurt Warner fumbled that ball without anyone reviewing it? I am no Kurt Warner fan, trust me. Read this if you don’t.  If the official reviewed it and said fumble I would have been fine with it. I watched that play at least 10 times and I still have issues with it ending the game. First off, the ball was not knocked out of his hands. The ball was released after a forward motion of his arm. Second, he threw forward! If the ball is not knocked out and he moves his arm forward is that not a forward motion? I have seen lesser plays called an incomplete pass. I am asking the officials to take a look before ending the game. Hell, Ken Whisenhunt challenged a play in the third quarter that was similar and got it overturned. The booth was not capable of this? I am not saying the Cardinals got screwed. I am not saying the Steelers didn’t earn a victory. I am asking what the hell is the instant replay for? There was still five seconds. Kurt Warner could have a shot of throwing downfield with two great wideouts against a top defense. The NFL didn’t even feel it necessary to find out if they needed too. Roger Goodell’s NFL doesn’t care to see what’s right. Roger Goodell’s NFL just didn’t want it messy. He is a PR guy. He wanted his confetti and he didn’t want his already maligned officials to be the subject of ridicule one way or the other. I am not saying it was a difference maker (Harrison’s INT was), but I am saying it should have been looked at.

One last thing that is purely selfish, I am more angry at the Giants loss to Philly now than I was then. The Giants would have killed both of these teams. It is sour grapes and nothing changes and that is why you play the games but it leaves me empty. I watched a very entertaining game but it wasn’t great. Both teams displayed great flaws that could have been exploited by the Giants. In fact, I watched the Giants beat both of these teams in their own buildings so I am not speaking out of school. If I am an Eagles fan, I would most likely be in prison or some sort of drug rehab or halfway house. While in those places, I would have also seen a major opportunity lost. But then again, they are the Eagles so fuck them.

Steelers 27 Cardinals 23: Santonio Holmes MVP.

Cavs 90 Pistons 80: LeBron did what he does. The Pistons did what they do, hence the score.
