That could have been me, only my whip is way tighter.

Being from Wisconsin, there are certain things you have to deal with.  People wearing Packers gear everywhere on Sundays, fat pale people all over, assholes from Illinois coming north and thinking they’re cooler than you,  cold weather and driving in the snow.  I’ve never had a problem with the snow, until last night.  I’ve driven in worse storms, and way worse conditions, but the roads didn’t seem to be plowed, salted or cleaned whatsoever.  It was coming down really hard, so maybe they just couldn’t keep up.  That’s most likely what happened.  I traded up from AWD to a car with RWD last year.  It’s probably not the smartest move in WI, but that’s how I roll.  Rear wheel drive sucks in the snow, but I got by so far.

Whatever, I had an appointment at 7 and needed to pick up Mamma Mia for my mom’s Christmas gift at Best Buy.  She better appreciate that much more knowing I could have died getting it.  So, I headed out at like 6 to give myself plenty of time.  I was driving along in the right lane, like a bitch, I know.  I lost control of my ride, and swerved left, then back right and was headed for the ditch.  I figured this sucks, but ah well.  Then my car spun completely around, and was headed perpendicular to traffic, and headed straight for the median.  I saw a car in the middle lane coming at me, but pretty far back and one in the left lane coming right for me.  Now I was really pissed.  The ditch is one thing, but a t-bone would have really sucked.  My foot was on the brakes, and it slowed me down enough that the car got passed before I got in the left lane.  Big ups to that guy for not slamming on his brakes and spinning out of control too.  So, I came to a stop in the left lane, looked around, and saw I was cool and no one was coming.  My car had died, which I’m hoping is a feature that is supposed to kick in when spinning out of control.  So, I put it in park, started it up, put it in drive and drove off shaking.  I got off the freeway at the next exit and called my boy and told him about it.  I laughed a little, which I think helped me realize the danger was over.

Needless to say, I didn’t take the freeway to get home.  I normally roll with the punches and don’t let flukey or accidental shit bother me.  But this has me scared.  I don’t think I was going too fast.  I think it was a combination of a light car with rear wheel drive, and terrible road conditions.  After I picked up this DVD, I was driving home as conditions were worsening.  I was passing a movie theater, and thought maybe I would catch a flick and give them time to clear the roads.  I want to see Role Models, which I have heard is really funny.  It wasn’t playing for 45 minutes, and I figured I shouldn’t let the snow win.  I manned up and pressed, following the tortoises advice, and drove slow and steady the whole way home.  Boy, was I glad to get home in one piece.

I’ve never been so happy to recap games from last night for you ladies and gents:

Tennessee 80, Marquette 70:  This was the worst officiated game I’ve seen all year so far.  Everything went against Marquette.  Seven of 8 guys who saw the court were in foul trouble.  A guy who was only saw the court for 8 minutes got 3 fouls racked up on him.  Dominic James is not a very good player.  He was great as a sophomore, but has actually gotten worse since then.  I don’t see him playing in the NBA.  Ever.  Tennessee’s strength is their depth.  They got 23 points off the bench.  Wayne Chism went off for 26 points, 21 of which came in the second half.  He also grabbed 11 boards.  This guy was much closer than the scoreboard showed, surprisingly.  (One more thing:  Cool read about 2 MU players who have played together since 5th grade.)

Houston 108, Denver 96:  Only a triple-double by Tracy McGrady could overshadow Yao Ming’s night. McGrady put up 20 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Yao led all scorers with 32 points, making 13-of-19 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Aaron Brooks scored 18 points and Ron Artest added 20 points from the bench.  (h/t Oh No Romo)

New Orleans 91, Memphis 84:  Chris Paulset a record, recording a steal in the 105 consecutive games.  CP3 led his team with 18 points, 9 assists, 3 rebounds and 5 steals.  David West also had 18 points for the Hornets in the victory.  Rudy Gay had 28 points and OJ Mayo added 20 points for the Grizz.  My knowledge of the NBA and more specifically the Memphis Grizzlies is minimal, but these 2 guys could make a good young duo.  Am I right Nick P?

Portland 109, Sacramento 77:  Brandon Roy had 29 points last night.  He only needed 3 quarters to drop all that on the Kings.  He also had 5 dimes.  This kid is fun to watch.  The Kings were led by John Salmons with 21 points and 5 rebounds.  I’ve never heard of him.
