First off…let me rant really quickly, then you’ll get your nougat-y links goodness that you’ve all been craving, so be patient.

Service Announcement: Avoid NEW Taylor Made golf clubs.

Taylor Made does make some fantastic clubs, don’t get me wrong, especially their RAC MB irons, which are fucking fantastic, but they’re a terrible, TERRIBLE company and the price you pay is simply not worth it.  As great as the RAC MB irons are, you can only get them in this gay “smoke” finish, which is basically the same finish as the originals, yet they charge you $150 more.  How does that make sense?  And not only that, but they release a new driver/fairway/hybrid line three times per year when Ping, Callaway, Nike, Titleist, etc all release new lines ONCE every two years.

So why are we avoiding NEW Taylor Made clubs?  Two reasons…first, the new ones aren’t nearly worth the price when compared to previous models and two, you can get the older models at a discount making them cheap as fuck.  Oh, and all their new offerings are butt-ass ugly, but that’s in the eye of the beholder (and this beholder says they look like a steaming pile of pony loaf).

This week, I bought a Fujikura Rombax 75X shaft, a shaft that normally runs in the $200+ range depending on weight and stiffness, for $60 shipped.  How did I do this, you may ask?  Easy…it was a pull from a 2008 Taylor Made Tour Burner TP (the ones they inexplicably charge twice the price for and all you get is a 1-2 degree open clubface at address) and has Taylor Made graphics on it.  Does this bother me, the informed shopper who values performance over appearance?  Fuck no.

But that’s not the point…the point is Taylor Made is taking other companies’ shafts and putting their graphics on it.  It still has the other company’s logo and insignia on there, but the graphics, the most noticeable part of the shaft, is obviously TM unless you can see small writing from a large distance.  Sergio Garcia and Sean O’Hair’s clubs have TM graphics on the shaft, but they don’t use TM shafts, they never would.  How the hell is this an honorable business practice?  It’s not.

So, in summary because I know I’m boring you…if you’re in the market for new golf clubs, avoid Taylor Made unless you’re buying them at a steep discount or buying their shaft pulls (/twss) or RAC MB’s.  They’re ugly and they’re far too expensive considering that in three months, you can buy your now-used club brand new for half the price you paid for it.  Doesn’t make sense, never will.  Now onto the linky goodness.
