The Pro Bowl Tandem

The Pro Bowl Tandem

This just in, six members of the NFC East Champion World Champion New York Football Giants will make the Pro Bowl. Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning and Justin Tuck have made it for the first time. The offensive line got its due with Center Shaun O’Hara and Guard Chris Snee going to their first Pro Bowls as well. This is an nice little recognition to some of the Champs biggest stars.

Normally , I could give a shit about the Pro Bowl and none of these guys will go anyway.  The reason I am even posting about this is the last two guys. Jeff Feagles and John Carney. Both have been to Pro Bowls before. Both are older than dirt. Both are major pieces to the team’s success. I wrote earlier this year about Feagles. I love the guy. He can kick for my team until his leg falls off. I hope he becomes a Hall of Famer. His work needed to be recognized so I guess I will have to settle for a Pro Blow nod. John Carney has been the reliable, stable kicker Lawrence Tynes never was. Jerry Reese’s only mistake was giving Tynes a five year deal after missing two field goals and hitting the third in the NFC Championship game. At least he knew to keep Carney during this spectacular season. He didn’t let a contract and ego get in the way. A hat tip to the Coach as well.

I feel this is an even bigger deal because the kicker and punter usually come from bad teams. They look at a punter’s yards per punt and those are usually punted by guys who kick the balls from farther back in their own zone because of an inept offense. Feagles doesn’t have those numbers. His ability to place a ball inside the ten and against the sidelines is phenominal. Carney has been steady. He is 29-32 with field goals and 35-35 with PATs. The fact that these two old warriors made it is one thing. The fact that it has been 14 years between Pro Bowl selections for Carney and 13 years for Feagles is mindboggling. Both of these guys have been so good for so long. I guess being on better teams has hurt their chances. Their importance to the NFC East Champion World Champion New York Football Giants has been immeasurable. Congratulations on a much deserved honor.
