“I’m from there, so home is home for me,” James said. “And that’s the way I was putting it at that time. No matter where you go or if you ever move somewhere else, it doesn’t matter. Home is always going to be home. And that was what I was basically letting them know.”
This prophetic statement was made by the LeGlobal Icon last night in New Jersey. Now why did he say this?
Last month, LeBron James stood at a voter registration rally in downtown Cleveland and shouted to the top of Terminal Tower: “I love you, Cleveland. I love Ohio and I’m not going anywhere.”
Now if you read the first statement, you would think he was referring to some long ago statement. He was referring to last month. I guess a lot has happened in the last four weeks. We have a new President. The Economy hit the shits. Cleveland got cold and LeBron remembered cold Cleveland blows asshole. With every team in basketball clearing cap space for 2010 and the promise of riches beyond his wildest dreams with two of them, I am sure LeBron needs to think about those big tax increases during these trying times. FYI, LeBron and his current team play next Tuesday at the Garden. I am sure Knick fans will let him know how we feel about his carpetbagging.
h/t to Newsday for the quotes.

this is swill. pure, unfiltered, travel-shitter, swill.
New York, New York big city of dreams, but everything in New York aint always what it seems
/
Dogg Pound’d
and does it really make sense for LBJ to leave to go to a team that’ll be far shittier than the one he’s on? cavs have the pieces in place AND have room to make moves…the NY teams have money, but would LBJ really want to have to do the 1-on-5 thing again just to make some more coin he doesn’t really need?
once he wins the championship this year, he aint goin anywhere.
Ahhh Spencer…this isn’t just a big contract…this is Fuck You Money…he is going to get Tiger Woods/Micheal Jordan FUCK YOU MONEY…And the Knicks will have pieces in place (as much as I make fun of them) Are any of their secondary pieces that much worse than the Delonte Wests of the world?
tiger woods/MJ fuck you money is only worth a shit if you have the rings to back it up, otherwise he’s a less-petulant stephon marbury.
and it’s obvious you haven’t seen a cavs game this year because delonte has been fuckin’ awesome. but you’re right, it’s probably better to leave a perennial contender to go to a reclamation project, how silly of me.
After seeing the adoration that Kobe received on the international stage as Bryant led our nation to gold, you really think the Global Icon wants to stay in a small corn-fed market?
Never take Delonte West’s name in vane*
He’s been fucking awesome since he’s been in a Cavs uni.
/stig’d
It’s more soybeans and wheat. Some corn.
Spence…They are that good because they play with LeBron. You don’t think he could do that with Jamal Crawford or David Lee? Come on man. He is Gone. Later.
honestly, yea, i do. it’s not like lebron was some completely ignored. he’ll be just as marketable regardless of the market he plays in.
and you’re just salty because your owner fucked up and dallas doesn’t have a shot anymore.
I have no problem saying the Mavs are poop this year, rather than big upping my team because they beat a bunch of ho-hum scrubs.
no, i don’t think he can do that with jamal crawford because jamal crawford can’t do shit unless he has the ball in his hands. ooo…david lee…ooo.
what else is there in NY/NJ? yi jianlian? the decaying corpse of vince carter? nate robinson? both those teams aren’t going to have any roster by the time LBJ is up for leaving, and it’s not as easy to just throw parts in around him. in cleveland he has a team that’s been with him for years now and they’re beating the crap out of people.
if you asked me a few months ago, id have said he’s gone, no doubt about it, but this team, which will be better at the trading deadline, is perfect for him. why would he just abandon that for an extra 0 on his paycheck full of them to begin with? nobody’s going to remember him for being rich, they’ll always remember him when he wins championships, and that’s not happening in NY/NJ anytime remotely soon.
Jesus, I can’t get away from this shit.
I think it must be noted that Lebron doesnt need a huge “market” to suceed. He is his own market. His high school games were on TV for chrissakes.
clown…at least they’re beating SOMEONE.
Spencer..I hate to say it but he won’t be…Right now he is a famous Basketball Player…If he plays in NY, LA or Chicago he is beyond that famous…ARod was just a great ball player before NY now he is a Universal (known by Men, women children, young old) Celebrity, David Beckham played for the most popular team in the whole world…he is not that great a player…he was known because of the Market. That is what LeBron craves…or so he leads us to believe…if he only cared about winning he would be like Tim Duncan and stay in San Antonio his whole life
Mo Williams is (so far) playing worse this year than last year.
Superstars don’t make players better. In most cases, they make them look worse, by taking shots away, getting more rebounds, everything else.
Law of diminishing returns. There’s only so much *stuff* to go around, and Lebron gets a lot of it because he’s the best on the planet.
I hate the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Spencer…Delonte West and Boobie Gibson are the same type of player as Crawford, Lee, Chandler, Q Richardson etc etc…good second fiddle types…I am missing where Cleveland has some good YOUNG second fiddle types
Rick, no one is saying James isn’t successful. That’s ridiculous. We’re talking about his desire to be on the level with Ali or Maradona.
if Lebron really wants to be famous and loved by everyone, he should put out a rap album.
Boobie is what he is. A spot up shooter.
But Mo and Delonte are worlds better than Crawford, Robinson. That’s really laughable.
Nick are you serious? Kobe doesn’t make his guys look better? LeBron doesn’t make his guys look better? Not everyone has to score more or get the ball more to be a better player…what those guys do is help cover up flaws of those players and allow them to excel in the one or two areas that they are best…that’s what the great player does..role players only have to play a role
this Maradona?
Nick..so when Delonte sucked for 4 years what was that? He shows up in Cleveland and now he is good..WHY? Le Bron allows him to play the role he was meant to play and covers up his flaws
@Roman: No. I don’t think any player does. Look at Pippen. There’s a reason he had his best year ever without Jordan. More shots, more everything, and he slurped them up.
this shit legitimately pisses me off. im done arguing.
Nick..that was Pippen’s best statistical year..It was not his best year as a basketball player… the Bulls were a worse team and Pippen had to play outside of his element…
Isnt he already? Personally, I guess I could agree with you clown, it does seem like his whole career (even HS) has been scripted and all he does is listen to his handlers (who have done a great job). If he wins in Cleveland AND the team stays the same/uprades THEN bolts, Spence has to agree that dude is pretty ghey.
SPENCER SMASH!!!!!
Are you serious, roman? Look at his numbers in Boston. His 2nd and 3rd years, he was very productive for a young guy.
In his 35 games in Seattle, he was stuck behind two dogshit, expensive players, Earl Watson and Ridnour, thanks to PJ Carlesimo and the moron brigade.
Any less productive than Crawford’s Nick?
No, more productive. Plus Crawford is old now. Dude sucks. He’ll be 30 before Lebron ever theoretically sets foot in NYK.
If you want to say Lebron is moving to NYK, say it’s for marketing, because the “same talent” argument is a non-starter. Either you don’t know how to evaluate production, or you just refuse to.

Crawfords stats

West’s stats
How has Delonte been more productive?
yea, nevermind the fact that crawford has probably 20x the offensive touches delonte has had…yea, that’s completely irrelevant.
Nick…MY ENTIRE ARGUMENT IS ABOUT THE MARKETING! But to say Cleveland has some world class/championship talent around him is a wrong…they are nice players…The Knicks have similar players
Spencer..I was told Delonte has been more productive..WHERE? I like Delonte West..I really do but he is having a good year playing along side a great player…Jaml Crawford has never had the same opportunity
http://www.basketball-reference.com/fc/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=1&p1=westde01&y1=2009&p2=crawfja01&y2=2009
Look at above for comparison of the two.
Per 36 minutes:
Delonte, true shooting% – better
rebounding – better
assists – better
turnovers – fewer
blocks – more
steals – more
The only thing Jamal is better at is taking shots, but when you’re a worse shooter, is that really a bonus?
if a great player played with jamal crawford, would that great player even see the ball? delonte is a better player because he realizes that there’s more to basketball than holding the ball all game and doing nothing else other than shooting ridiculously wild and inefficient shots. things like “passing” “rebouding” and “defense” have no meaning to jamal.
if jamal crawford was such a good player, why is it that every team he’s been on has been a joke and he’s been shipped off? why hasn’t a contender traded for him even though he’s extremely talented? because he can’t play any semblance of a team game? sounds about right.
playing solid defense and having your teammates rely on you is much more productive than getting 17 points on 25 shots while your team loses by 10 every night.
Fine..I will accept it but please don’t make that sound like Delonte is head and shoulders better either…all of those numbers a similar
@roman: Maybe, but they’re all on the Delonte side of the ledger.
It’s like in baseball, when someone’s a little bit better fielder, little bit better hitter, little bit better baserunner, it adds up to a lot better player.
Spencer..He played for two teams so he was shipped off once, he was a cost effective player for the Knicks (and an Isiah fav) He does play more defense than given credit for but when your team is running up and down the court, defense is not a priority…this season the ball has been taken out of his hands and he has been much much better…Chris Duhon runs the team now
roman…it’s fantastic that NYC has 1,000x better marketing opportunities than cleveland, nobody is denying that.
but rubbing it in cavs fans’ face every fucking chance you get is going to piss people off just a little bit. you really want to be on my “death list” behind that ginger nuts, ric bucher and marc stein? really?
spencer…I was only busting balls and trying to get site hits…you think bashing Michigan everyday doesn’t piss people off
you’re using THAT as a supporting argument? um…
No..just a reason he wasn’t traded
you just happened to be the target. i can’t yell at ric bucher.
Guys, take this to the KG hate post.
@spence: I have yelled at Ric Bucher. We saw him in NO and yelled that Lebron was better than Kobe at him. Good times.
I understand…We are Major League Jerk though…Let us all go Hate KG together
Where Lebron is from (Akron), there are no corn fields for hours. The city of Cleveland and the surrounding burbs do not have corn fields. You are mistaking it for Columbus, which is surrounded by zzzzzzzzzzzzzz nada. Fields, farms.
