Dear Cub Fans,

Normally, I revel in other’s misery. I know that you have been splashing around in mine for a few days. But last night made me a bit sad. I turn on my TV with the hopes that you guys would be going bat shit crazy and making nothing but noise for 3 hours. Instead, I got a tense, quiet crowd that completely disappeared when James Loney hit that Grand Slam. Now, I understand what you do has no effect on the game. The “people” down there are unfeeling, unknowing drones who are just statistical creations that fit holes on a stat sheet. But sometimes I like to pretend the players are human. Sometimes, I like to think they rise to the occasion and feel positive chi and feed off the home crowd. I am certain you feel that way too or else you would not spend hundreds of dollars on tickets. So, after spending that type of money and devoting all of your time caring for your team, you showed up nervous. Not good.

This morning, I am reading papers and articles online and the columnists and fans seem to be burying this team, a 97 win team, already. They lost one game. There are possibly four more to go. Adding a day between games one and two is certainly no treat either. At least they play tonight. More Less time to overanalyze one game. Now, I am not a Cub fan so I really don’t have all that history pent up behind me. Hell, I am far from rational either. I can be a regular Chicken McSkyisfalling myself. But, you have a good team. Believe in them. Get out there tonight and show them and the world that all is well. I could tell you that this whole Playoff process is supposed to be fun. It isn’t. It is a terrorizing agony that makes you feel worse as your team progresses. But to get your team to progress and feel absolute joy (something I do know about being a season ticket holder of the World Champion New York Football Giants) you are going to need to sweat it out. You are going to need to feel pain. You are going to need to believe. So get off your fucking hands and cheer your fucking team.

Yours Truly,

RomanWarHelmet
