Last night, a ton of bombs were hit by players I like. Adam Dunn, Jay Bruce, and Joey Votto are three of my favorite guys, and they hit 5 homers between the 3 of them (2 each for Bruce/Votto). Adam Dunn is now 2 homers away from his 5th consecutive 40 homer / 100 walk season, which is an incredible feat. He’s the man, and I’m glad the Reds were able to get an injured pitcher, a shitty pitcher, and a lower-tier infield prospect for him. Onto the games:

Reds 11, Brewers 2: Other than Bruce/Votto, homers were hit by Jolbert Cabrera, Andy Phillips, and Cherry Hairston, Jr. Before the season, I placed a bet on the Reds win total. Over 78.5 wins. If the Reds finish 8-1 or better, I win. After the early season struggles, the sell-off, the awful lineup construction, and Corey Patterson, I never thought I’d be in a position to win this bet. I won’t win, but at least I have something to root for now.

Indians 6, Tigers 5: Gary Sheffield is one giant piece of shit. And the Indians are going to be more than fine next year. I’ll predict a Central division championship right now. An outfield of Grady, Choo, and Gutierrez/platoon partner will be really good next year, and even after trading CC, the Indians have more than adequate pitching.

Florida 14, Philly 8: Ryan Howard blasted homer #46 last night in the loss. His OBP is only .336, though. He’s been a pretty huge disappointment this season, in my opinion. The talk of him being MVP sickens me.

White Sox 9, Royals 4: Future Hall of Famer Jim Thome hit career homer #540 last night. His career OPS+ is 148, which puts him in a tie for 38th all-time. Brian Bannister got lit up for the Royals, dropping his record to 8-16. You sure you want him back on the Mets, Roman?

Mets 9, Braves 5: Mets took over first place in the NL East with last night’s victory. Picking the Mets MVP is very difficult to me. The candidates: David Wright — great offense, overrated defense, less valuable position, Jose Reyes — good offense, good defense, most valuable position (besides catcher), or Carlos Beltran — goodish/great offense, outstanding defense, second most valuable position. I really think I’d lean towards Beltran at this point just ahead of Reyes. Either way, it is absolutely not Carlos Delgado.

BoSox 4, Jays 3: I’m really interested to hear how good Kevin Youkilis’s defense is at third base. Would any of our readers care to fill me in? If he is even average at third base, his value shoots way up. My guess is that he’s bad, though.

Rays 11, Twinkies 1: Evan Longoria signed a contract for 9 years / $44 M. The last 3 years are club option years. He’s guaranteed 6 years / $17.5 M. It is my belief that he will be the first or second most valuable player in all of baseball in no less than two years. He will be an indentured servant for the entirety of this contract. His agent is really, really foolish.

Bucks 107, Troy -2: Last week did not happen…Last week did not happen…Last week did not happen…Last week did not happen.

At least I got the Cavs. Enjoy your Saturday.
