Stoked cause of the record? Or being featured on MLJ?

Special thanks to Hef for bailing us all out yesterday. I would have gone with a stat of the day, but I got blood all over my keyboard from slitting my wrists after the Twins’ latest implosion.

As we all know, saves are the most important statistic for a reliver. You have to have balls to be a closer, baby. Otherwise you’re just a middle reliever, coming in in the 7th with no one out and runners on second and third. That’s boring. We need people who can get it done in the 9th with a three run lead when it counts. That’s why Brian Wilson, even though he has a 4.40 ERA, is tied for the 3rd best reliever in all of baseball this year. Who are the others?

1. Francisco Rodriguez, LAA, 58 Saves

2. Jose Valverde, Hou, 42 Saves

3. Joakim Soria, KC, 39 Saves

3. Brian Wilson, SF, 39 Saves

5. Jonathan Papelbon, Bos, 38 Saves
