The week after Labor Day has been an edgy time for everyone. Not only do we have to go back to work and/or school after a long weekend, there is also the realization that summer is over. The MLJ community has been hit hard by that bug as well. Sportsgal got her hair cut, and as a result looks like this, illformula had a bad week cause he had to take his first shower and shave for the first time since May, stigs entertained a nice young lady at the Harley Davidson 105th Anniversary who turned out to be not a lady, and Rex found out that his, um, instrument is too small to even hold a condom on it. But two of our commenters did have good weeks folks. It was announced that HawkEye received an honorary degree for being the smartest man ever to live, and the only person to know everything about everything, and as a result the Whig party named him and gurucane as the ticket for the 2008 election. They have some work to do in just 2 months time, but since they know everything, it should be no sweat. Good luck, fellas! Hopefully the new technology of the television and the computer doesn’t screw them up to bad.
There were also a lot of baseball games played this week, and if your team was featured, chances our they sucked. I know my favorite team did. More after the jump.
Jays 9, Twins 0: The Twins blew two winnable games in this series and took it on the chin in this one to fall 1.5 back of the White Sox. The race isn’t over yet, but that 1.5 game gap looks a lot bigger when you see how the Twins have been playing lately.
Rays 7, Yanks 5: Although he walked 5, Scott Kazmir still managed to throw 6 shutout innings to get his 11th win of the season. One intriguing thing to watch down the stretch is if the Rays limit the pitches thrown by Kazmir, Garza and Shields.
Padres 5, Brewers 2: The Brewers still have not won in the month of September, and failed to gain ground on the Cubs. Shawn Estes got the win by giving up just 1 run in 6 innings. No one for Milwaukee got more than one hit.
Angels 7, Tigers 1: Torii Hunter hit his 20th homer of the season, and Ervin Santana continued his renaissance season, picking up his 15th win by throwing 7.1 innings, giving up just 1 run and striking out 8 batters.

Good point on the Rays limiting their starting pitchers pitch count. I was thinking about that when I was watching the first game of the series against the Yanks the other day. For the most part, the’ve been extremely fortunate with their starting pitching staying healthy and they pretty much have a playoff spot locked up. They really need to try and get Kazmir, Garza, Shields and Jackson some rest before October. I don’t see Sonnastine getting too many starts in the playoffs, but he should get a start or two (depending on how far they go) and come out of the bullpen for long relief.
hawkeye / gurucane ‘08!!
