Hey all, it’s Labor Day weekend. Why are you all at work? Leave, call in sick, make yourself throw up all over your computer, whatever it takes to get an extra day of vacation. Except any Cubs fans that read this, you all need to stay. Come in Monday too while you’re at it. Although if you left I’m sure no one would miss you. As for me, I’m heading out for a little vacation. Four days of class is a tough week after all. Thin slate of baseball games yesterday, so I think I’ll pepper in some games of other sorts. Don’t worry though, baseball is up first.

Yankees 3, Red Sox 2: Jason Giambi hit his 27th homer of the year to tie the game in the 8th inning, and then hit the walkoff single in the 9th to win it. That ruined a great outing by Jon Lester, who threw 6.2 innings and gave up 1 run, striking out 8. Mark Kotsay also had his first hit as a member of the Red Sox.

Barack Obama 1, John McCain 0: Ball’s in your court, old man. Obama’s speech rocked the house last night and did a good job of illustrating why America doesn’t want a third George Bush in office. For the record I am an independent and have no political ties.

Nats 11, Dodgers 2: Clay Kershaw did not have the finest start of his Major League career. He lasted just 2.1 innings and gave up 5 runs. Christian Guzman hit his 6th homer of the season while hitting for the cycle, and Elijah Dukes had a multi homer game.

Coin 6, 4, 5; Ivanovic 3, 6, 3: The hottest of all tennis hotties is out of the US Open. Guys everywhere are sad.

Rays 3, Jays 2: It appears that my dream of seeing the 4th place New York Yankees isn’t going to happen this year. Edwin Jackson scattered 6 hits over 7 innings and picked up his 11th win of the season as he starts to deliver on some of the promise that followed him around as a top prospect in Los Angeles. Three relievers combined in the 8th, and Dan Wheeler got the 9th for his 10th save of the season.

North Dakota 40, Texas A&M-Kingsville 14: UND won it’s Division 1-AA debut, in which Brady Trenbeath caught 9 passes for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. Senior quarterback Danny Freund was 18-25 for 260 yards and 2 TDs, but the Sioux showed that they will be affected by the loss of RB Ryan Chappell, who was ruled academically ineligible. 5 RBs got carries, including Branden Dungy, the nephew of Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy
