I couldn’t think of a cool headline, so I just went with the fact that 4 teams scored in double figures last night. Lots of interesting games happened, and there was also an interesting announcement: The finals of the 2009 World Baseball Classic will be played in Dodger Stadium. I’m not a huge fan of the classic, but with baseball leaving the Olympics at least for four years, I’ll have to make do. Anyways, onto last night’s games….

Twins 10, White Sox 6: Of course I was going to lead off with this game. The White Sox started out with a 4-0 lead, but the Twins clawed back aided by three run homers by Justin Morneau and Jason Kubel. Morneau had 10 RsBI in the series and is second in the AL with 83 on the season. The Twins are now just a half game back of the White Sox.

Spencer’s game of the night: Indians 9, Tigers 4: Grady Sizemore hit his 27th homer of the season and also stole his 27th base. My fantasy team says thank you. In the upset of the century Sal Fasano went 2-3 with 2 RBI. More good news for Indians fans: Fausto only gave up 2 earned runs in 6.1 innings.

Angels 12, Yankees 6: Hard to tell if the Angels are that good or the Yankees are that bad. Torii Hunter and Vlad Guerrero each hit their 18th homer of the season, and John Garland delievered a quality start. For the Yankees, Xavier Nady continued his career season, hitting his 15th homer of the year. Somehow I’m baffled that we don’t have a Yankees writer on staff cause I feel like puking whenever I have to write something about them.

Cubs 11, Brewers 4: All of a sudden the Brewers find themselves 5 games back. Rich Harden struck out 9 in 7 innings, finally delivering a lengthy start. Clearly the Cubs have the upper hand on the Brewers, but I can’t take a team who puts Alfonso Soriano in the leadoff spot seriously.

Cortes’s game of the night: Marlins 12, Rockies 2: The Rockies insist they’re still in the NL West race. The Marlins banged out 12 hits, with Jeremy Hermida’s 3-5 night leading the way. Hanley Ramirez and Jorge Cantu each hit homeruns. Not to be overlooked, of course, is Anibal Sanchez’s first start since 2007, striking out 4 guys in 5.2 innings and giving up only 2 earned runs.
