Last week, I brought you Justin Speier reading the Angels line up on Fox as Mike Tyson which goes down as one of the more uncomfortable moments of my TV viewing life. Well, for shits and giggles I went on YouTube and found this:
[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL55LyqxCJY]
While this performance is definitely more solid, he did Arnold man. Who can’t do Arnold? He definitely couldn’t do Mike Tyson. If he does his next one as Sylvester Stallone, I quit. Happy Sunday everyone.

I can’t wait to see someone’s Indian Cab Driver impersonation.
one day, when spier is old, he will look back on this and say…”i am an asshatted fucktard”
If he doesn’t say it, I will.
I do a great indian cab driver impression. Here it is:
“Would you like to stop at te 7-11 for a slurpee!?”
See, wasn’t that excellent?
/not meant to be racist, just comical
I fucking hate that guy.
Chef from South Park has died
Isaac Hayes?
Chef? no way. Paul newman is also on his deathbed., What’s going on here?
and Bernie Mac dies yesterday. it looks like the all too common famous deaths trifecta is about to strike again.
/old wives tale
Under the Lights starts right now with this little gem from fellow MLJ’er spence:
Golf clap.
It’s nice when someone is wrong in a public forum and we can all join together and mock that person. Really nice.
Isn’t that why you started this blog?
That’s why I joined up.
Agreed. Making people eat their own words and then shitting on them is high up on the list of reasons to do anything.
Live blog of the gymastics comp.

anyone here?
Nope.
im just watching me some young small boobed chicks doing cartwheels…you?
Trying to decide whether or not Andre Dawson should be in the Hall. Leaning towards no.
my wife has asked me all night…
why are you watching synchronized diving?
why are you watching gymnastics?
I said:
I am simply watching the Olympics…
The synchronized diving was cooler than I thought. Still, why is that an event? Seems like more of a novelty.
hall of fame is always wierd though…
was he a hall of famer 15 years ago?
if the answer is yes…then he should be in the hall…if the answer is no…thenm he shouldnt be
thats why the whole art monk thing was such bullshit…the gur retired w the most receptions ever…if thats not HOF, i dont know what is….why take 10 years to put him in
i want to start a blog olympics

@ hef
zoom out or pan down?
Was he a hall of famer 15 years ago? I don’t understand the question. He’s Dave Kingman with better defense. Is Dave Kingman a hall of famer? I say no.
@ hef
zoom out or pan down?
No idea what this means. At all.
while watching gymnastics…what do you prefer the camera would do?
dawson …based on his 1980s was closer to a HOF than his entire body of work
staying around too long diluted his accomplishments
I haven’t watched more than 5 minutes of the olympics yet. I saw the diving while we were picking up dinner. And I have trouble watching gymnastics because long ago, I made a concerted effort not to even glance at a girl that couldn’t pass for 25 (i’ve got two kids and don’t want to look like a perv). Plus those little elves scare the shit out of me. They’re like 4′8″
Staying around too long? He only played 21 years. It was his last three years that killed him when his knees began to fail him.
Yes, he was best in the 80s, so what. If we only went by his 80s numbers his body of work would be too small to judge.
im sensing some real judgement here
No judgment. I just don’t care for it myself.
80s is a decade….thats a pretty good sample of many careers
but if you take away 1987….i gotta say…he is just really an above average player
i say no to the HOF too…if dawson is not HOF….kingman shouldnt even be mentioned
the argument for both is HRs….but if that were the only criteria, Jose Canseco would be in too
HRs? I’m not looking only at HRs. That’s silly. But he only had a 119 OPS+ (despite his spectacular defense in the OF).
Jim Rice’s OPS+ was 128. And he’s not in.
Tatis Damnit Hef…don’t you bad mouth the Hawk and compare him with Fucking David Arthur Kingman..that’s wrong..just wrong..I am slightly biased as I love Dawson…but of all the guys who are argued about..he deserves to be in the Hall…He played in Olympic Stadium…not a fun hitters ballpark
@ RWH
I often wondered about that too…what IF all ball parks were standardized?
How would this affect stats for everyone?
Well…OPS+ is supposed to equal everything…so I saw he had a lower OPS+..I don’t know..I saw him play..he was as good as Winfield at his best…He did have some clunkers in there though
half of the guys dawson is compared to on BB Ref are HOF…what says the Chronicler about that?
The Hawk was good. Really good. Just shy of great. I loved the Hawk. Still do.
I think he is going to make it…he was at 64% this year and gets more votes every year…there are way more debatable guys in the Hall already
Not outfielders. There are many debatable infielders but there’s only one outfielder who was voted in by way of the BBWA that is worse.
i say the best thing Dawson has going for him to improve his chances was the ” * era “
I have been slightly turned on the Jim Rice debate but you can’t turn me on Andre Dawson…I loved that guy…he ruined hi legs on that fucking turf in front of 10000 people…if he played in a bigger market he would have been appreciated
I am not looking it up..which one?
Lou Brock.
Chicago isn’t a big market? You’re high.
I loved the 89 Cubs, especially Gracie, Hawk and Rhino. But I don’t think he should make it.
agree w RWH
he didnt go to CHC til 87!
so what. He played there for 8 years.
but we are basing his HOF on the 80s right?
we already said he stayed to long and diluted his #s
No. You were basing his HOF on the 80s.
is this PTI…are you just trying to be bad cop?
we already said he stayed to long and diluted his #s
Again, no. We said that his last three years were poor because of his bad knees. But he still needed to add to his body of work. He wasn’t a HOF based on what he had done up til 1993. But those last three years hurt his cause.
let me understand who i am arguing with…
Is Jim Thome a HOFer?
Hef…Dawson played his prime years in Montreal and had his best year in Chicago…No one was talking about how great he was until his fielding had diminished and he had a fluke HR year in Wrigley….Lou Brock passes my very no scientific name test..you say the player and either he is or he isn’t…Lou Brock his like Ozzie Smith..he specialized in one thing but he did it better than anyone …well in Brock’s case better than everyone until Rickey came along
I say Dawson passes the HOF test based on the Mazeroski – Ozzie Principle….as does Jim Rice
Mazeroski shouldn’t be in the Hall. Ozzie was the best defensive SS ever.
I agree with Hef
Lou Brock wasn’t even as good a defender as Dawson. Dawson had a great glove due to his speed and coordination. He was a superb defender. But he wasn’t the best all time. Is that enough to put him in?
Again, I love Jim Rice (love, love), but he’s not a HOF. Anyone who is such a product of his home field is not a HOF in my book (eat a dick, Matt Holliday).
I am looking at Brock’s numbers…he was a hell of a leadoff man…but remember..the people who voted him in in 1985 saw him play…I keep saying it and am lambasted…but they played a different game in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s…some of Lou’s best years came in the 60’s which was offensive hell
Dawson belongs in the Hall based on his sweet jheri curl alone. Consider this debate won.
And yes, Jim Thome is a HOF’er if they don’t come out and say he was a roid head.
First ballot even.
Roman: I will admit, Brock’s game was a better fit for the 60s. Not a lot of offense so if you got on base, you needed a guy who could steal and go first to third in the event that someone got a hit. He was a great player for the 60s era.
i think that ozzie was the best defensive SS everas well…and doing backflips said “hey…remember me” which is what alot of sportswriters did.
with that said …was ozzie a complete player…NO
was dawson a complete player – YES
Only Gary Carte ent to the HOF as an Expo….but many former Expos will be HOFers…
I truly believe that had Dawson or even FAgency been more of a factor back in the 70s-80s….we wouldnt even be debating this
i guess thats why – although on the fence….i say falling towards dawsons side is not a bad way to fall
I actually have talked myself into yes…dawson is HOF
Gary Carter shouldn’t be in the hall either.
Hef…that’s what I am saying..we are trying to go back and put our standards on people who played over 20 something years ago…they played different..they approached the game differently…Dawson’s era was a speed Era…Brock and Maury Wills were the two guys who used the stolen base as a weapon that was copied to excess by the Cardinals and Expos of the 70’s and 80’s…I go back to a thing I saw on Real Sports..Dawson said..if I knew that not walking was going to prohibit me from going into the Hall I would have walked more…His style of baseball was about hit and runs and situational hitting…which agree or disagree with the style was what he needed to do at the time it effects stats across the board
Hef..Carter was the second best catcher of his ERA…better than Fisk..Better than Munson..another Product of Olympic Stadium and then Shea..he was HOF…and to compare him to Bench is unfair..no one was Bench
Dawson’s 438 homers are more than Joe DiMaggio or Johnny Bench or Al Kaline or Duke Snider.
Dawson’s 1,591 RBI are more than Rogers Hornsby or Harmon Killebrew or Tris Speaker or Willie McCovey.
Dawson’s 2,774 hits are more than Lou Gehrig or Ted Williams or Joe Morgan.

I don’t buy that for a minute. Swinging at shitty pitches is never a desired quality. You and I (esp. you) are old enough to have watched Dawson. And I agree, he was spectacular. But he’s shy of the Hall by a few numbers. And the 80s weren’t that different from the current era so I just don’t buy it. Again, he was a good player that was just shy of being great enough to make it in.
You’re going to use Lou Gehrig? Really? You should bring up Kirby Puckett while you’re at it.
Hef..the 80’s were completely different…guys led the league with 32 homers…it was high batting average..high stolen bases..hitting and running…to get 100 RBIs was a fucking accomplishment..now every team has one or 2 guys…if you are swinging at pitched to get sac flies or move guys over…it effects things..it’s not just swinging at shitty pitches
Dude he had 50 more hits than Gehrig in 5+ more years. Cherry picking.
ok…while i am at it kirby puckett
So that’s different from the current era by…10ish HRs? How many guys are going to hit 40 this year? How many are going to have 100 RBI?
Hef..look at Dawson’s Strikeouts…he had more than 100 strikeouts 3 times…he averaged 80 a season…he didn’t strikeout
Dawson didn’t have a high batting average. He hit a career .279. He got on base at a .321 clip. That’s awful.
Did I say he struck out a lot? I don’t remember that. Find it.
skewed or not…i am presenting stats…you are presenting opinions….
40…at least 7 or 8…we are talking in the mid 80’s one guy or two tops would brake 30…it changed in 87 and 88…but the first 6 years of the decade were not tremendous HR hitting years
ook just when i say that you bring stats…..f’er
Hef..you said he swung at shitty pitches…he batted second for half of his career…his job was to move Rock Raines over…it was how they played ball..you can;t take todays ideas and transfer them back in time
skewed or not…i am presenting stats…you are presenting opinions….
What the fuck are you talking about? I’ve been giving facts and comparisons all night. You’re cherrypicking stats that don’t paint a complete picture.
I made a mistake about Dawson..he batted third his half his career..Cromartie batted second
Ok….let me put it another way….
name the best players of the 1980s
Ok..I am up entirely too late discussing Andre Dawson..manana fuckers
Roman, if he’s only getting on base 32% of the time (when he’s capable of hitting a HR at every opportunity) then he’s swinging at bad pitches. That’s not arguable.
name the best players of the 1980s
Is that your trump card? If I can name 3 outfielders who were better than Dawson do I win? 5? 10?
Dawson not on that list then this is a hopeless discussion for me
Agreed. We’ll resume this argument tomorrow at 10 AM EST.
