Some World Series Are Already Over

Is series really the plural of series? I’ve been looking at that word so long it doesnt even look like it’s spelled right. Anyways, due to the Olympic frenzy over the past couple weeks it totally slipped my mind that it was Babe Ruth World Series time. For full disclosure the reason I’m so interested in it is cause I played in the 2003 event, and last year I was one out away from becoming the person who had the quickest turnaround from playing in the World Series to coaching in it. Sort of a dubious honor, but hey I would have taken it. Just for funzies some of your former Babe Ruth MVP’s include: Paul Byrd, Jimmy Rollins, Rod Beck, Mickey Lolich and Horacio Ramirez, along with a lot of much much lesser known major leaguers. In the World Series I played on I played against 4 players playing major division one baseball, including Joey Wong, who as a Freshman was the starting second baseman for national champion Oregon State. Below, for poops and giggles, is a run down of this year’s world champions.

Cal Ripken (10 year olds): West Raleigh, North Carolina

Cal Ripken (12 year olds 60 feet): Bear, Delaware

Cal Ripken (12 year olds 70 feet): Jupiter, Florida

13 year old: Bryant, Arkansas

14 year old: Norwalk, Connecticut (West Fargo, ND participated)

15 year old: Torrence, California

Senior Babe Ruth (16-18 year olds): Portland, Oregon

For the record: any of the Cal Ripken teams could wipe the floor with any of the Little League teams, no joke. When I was 12 we played against a team that ended up close to making the LLWS, and we beat them by 10. We didn’t even come close to winning our state tournament that year. Babe Ruth > Little League.
