I hate the Yankees. I know… completely original thought coming at you from the boys at MLJ. I hate them for the same reasons that everyone else does, although I’m warming to this Hank Steinbrenner lad. I do like the history of the Yankees, and by “history”, I mean anything that predates the rampant commercialism and media humpage that occurs for all things pin-striped.
There’s Nothing to Click Here: Yankee Stadium’ish Edition
From the Department of WTF?, we have 2 ebay auctions: 1 is for a Babe Ruth autograph listed at $6,999. The other? A 10/10 graded Joba Chamberlain autographed card for…
Rick Reilly was the suck last night. Terrible. Unbelievably bad. Somehow he sounded worse than when he did “humorous” drop-ins on the US Open golf coverage. Since he’s getting crushed everywhere, I’ll point you to what he’s clearly gooder at: writing and writing about the end of Yankee Stadium. Sure, it’s no Estadio Olimpico in Santiago, Chile, or even as breathtaking as the Celinto Catayente Towers, just down the street from the Estadio, but still…
Someday I plan on actually writing a post dedicated to the gem that is the Library of Congress online digital collection. Many of the MLB-related photos are rights managed, but many are in the public domain. What’s that mean? It means that you can download ultra-high resolution copies and have them printed as high as poster-sized. I’ve literally spent hours going down one road or another there.
Babe Ruth, Opening Day, Yankee Stadium, 1923

Yankee Stadium, 4/3/1923

A fine idea for imparting luck on New Yankee Stadium: Burying Bernie Williams in the new foundation. “According to team sources, the instant the 39-year-old Williams was completely submerged in the rapidly setting structural material, stopping his voice as his lungs and mouth filled with concrete, the sun broke through the clouds and shone on the yet-incomplete field.”

Is that a Something About Mary reference I detect amongst the wreckage? It is.
I forgot the Dumb and Dumber reference though. The Babe picture absolutely called for “Pullover? No, it’s a cardigan, but thanks for noticing.”.
Don’t you hate it when you work hard on something and no one comments on it? Ah well, later loser.
Your first mistake is thinking I worked hard on something. I outsource this shit to India. You pay me 8 bucks a post, I pay Vishnu $1.25, leaving me with a profit of whatever 8.00 minus 1.25 is.
That’s a mighty big minus there, Frito.
That fucking Vishnu is making a killing – think of all the posts he can write at $1.25 a piece with his eight hands.
“…the rampant commercialism and media humpage that occurs for all things pin-striped.”
This is so sad. It is a business. You’re telling me if you guys could make millions of dollars by selling out and becoming a Yankees blog you wouldn’t do it? If so, you’re all better moral individuals to me but I’m calling shenanigans.
Also, its crap to hate something because ESPN shoves it down your throat. You should be angry at ESPN, not the Yankees. The only place this logic doesn’t apply is in regards to NASCAR… hate that just because.
/Rant Over.
better moral individuals THAN me… damn me
