According to ESPN, the Indians have agreed to send Casey Blake to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Carlos Santana and right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan.
Santana is hitting .323, with 14 homers, for Inland Empire, in the Class A California League. The hard-throwing Meloan is 5-10, with a 4.97 ERA, at Triple-A Las Vegas — but has piled up 335 strikeouts in only 262 innings in his minor league career.
I’ll let Fetch pontificate on Meloan’s value since I’ve never heard of the guy, but as for Santana, anytime you can trade for the best Latino guitarist ever, it’s a move you have to make.
Old Timey baseball man Ned Colleti had this to say about Blake:
“Casey Blake is a gamer,” Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said. “His experience and character will be a plus as we head down the stretch in the final two months of the regular season.”
Thanks for the insight, Ned. You’re truly a breath of fresh air in a world full of VORPy assholes.
For what it’s worth, Casey Blake is a very solid player. His OPS over the last 3 calendar years is .811, which should see a boost when he starts to face easier NL pitching. He’s a capable defender at 3B and can play either corner OF spot. Considering there’s a strong chance Blake will be worth at least a Type B compensation pick when he leaves in free agency (unless Colleti signs him – don’t rule it out), this seems to be a great deal for the Dodgers.

funny…i thought the same thing about an hour ago when i saw the carlos santana…
Mike: In my defense, I’ve had this post written for awhile, but put it on a delayed publish till 2:30, because of Hef’s Nazist post rules.
Also, this trade will make my pick come true.
Go Dodgers.
…not poo pooing it…im just pointing out the irony….
as far as your pick coming true….send me some of what your smoking…so i can have a delayed buzz…in october
Mikey…I didn’t know…you attended…Roman’s writing class

Ill change my writing style to infer inflection from now on – that way I do not offend anyone – especially anyone who writes for MLJ – Sorry Clown
or should I just break it up into several consecutive comments like I am now?
Personally, I like the one where you type “(pause)” each time.
fucking Charlie Weis is doing the 7th inning stretch @ Wrigley (pause) what the fuck is up with that?
oh (pause) it’s because of Jeff Samardzija (pause) never mind
Mikey – which college football team do you prefer?

i grew up about 30 minutes from gainesville (pause) in ocala
Sweet. They should do pretty well – those losses to Tennessee, Georgia, and South Carolina notwithstanding.
the road to the national championship always goes through florida
urban meyer is gay.
/salty still
ok…trade thoughts: i liked casey blake, and he’ll probably resign in the offseason, and even if he doesn’t, it’s not too bad. instead the Tribe gets a guy who looks like a pimp back-end bullpen guy and a decent, possiby not-that bad catcher…good enough for me.
CC trade still sucked.
except when it goes through USC
fucking derosa
haha. then the idiot slides to first. MDR truly is a funkin flame.
Spence: I was under the impression most Indians fans hate Blake, which I could never understand. He was solid in most respects and could play about anywhere.
wow…the cubs are making my blog easy to write…all i gotta do is cut and paste every game from the day before…it has been that easy since the all star break
Nick…oh, that impression is accurate. he does have a penchant for striking out in big moments, but aside from that, he was always solid in the field and he did produce enough to warrant being a starter. plus, he was versatile…no hate from me.
plus, i just have a gut feeling he’ll be back.
now i gotta watch another brewers game tonight and root for huston…this is getting fucking sad…is there any room on the yankee bandwagon now that they are winning again?
shanoff?
@ sparty….i said thats all i gotta do…but its not what i actually did…and i thought we were friends
jeremy hermida is starting to look like the guy that i was fooled into taking the 3 previous years in fantasy.
