Wolf To Astros

Today the Padres sent P Randy Wolf to Houston in return for minor league pitcher Chad Reineke. Reineke isn’t a great pitcher, with a 4.41 ERA in 19 starts for Round Rock, Houston’s AAA affiliate. But, with a less than 1/1 GB/FB ratio, it seems that Reineke would be able to benefit from the change to San Diego’s spacious Petco Park. He is a big guy at 6′6″, 210 pounds, so perhaps he could have a successful run in the bullpen.

As for the Astros….as usual I have no idea what they’re doing. They’re 12 games out in the NL Central and looking up at 4 teams, yet they’re making a win now move? This doesn’t make sense to me. The Astros rotation is awful, but in Houston it’s about time to blow the whole thing up and build around Hunter Pence and Lance Berkman, not add a veteran who will add maybe one or two more wins to the Astros total and allow them to MAYBE finish in 4th and not 5th.

Build around Lance Berkman? The guy’s 32 and is could give CC a run for his money in the weight department.

Quote

You tell em SG. Fuck fat people. Let’s run some suicides.

Quote

Lance Berkman is gonna be there for 3 more years after this one, plus he makes 15 million a year. I’d like to know what they should do with him.

Quote

Plus, he’s by far their best player. Time to let the boys talk.

Quote

SG, don’t question Fetch. Unless of course he’s talking about the bar scene, career advice or sex.

Quote

true, not true, and sometimes (mostly) true.

Quote

If you’re going to build a team around people, maybe you’d want to pick someone who isn’t going to be washed up in three years. Berkman is their best player NOW. We’ll see what happens to him when he’s 36 and pushing 300lbs. You’re the one using the term “building,” don’t get pissed at me because you don’t know what it means.

Quote

I guarantee you he is the best player on the team in 3 years as well.

Quote

that time of the month sweetie?

Quote

Could they possibly flip Randy Wolf to another team? What type free agent is he? Maybe they want the draft pick?

Quote

“As for the Astros….as usual I have no idea what they’re doing. ”

Trying to win. Our rotation is atrocious, but bullpen is better now with Sampson back there, our closer is better than some worse than others and the line-up great when we can get anything at all from CF and C…

I only wish they could have made a trade sooner.

Quote

1. I suppose they could.
2. Won’t know until the season is over, but I would guess B
3. Cortes where the hell have you been

Quote

I guarantee you he is the best player on the team in 3 years as well.

You’re saying that like it’s a good thing for Houston. I agree with SG, he’s awesome now, but in a year or two, which is how long it will take for the Astros to build a winner, he will be on the downside of his career. That is, unless he’s ‘roided up.

Quote

Damn if JT doesn’t look good in that burgundy and gold.

Quote

woke up late fetch.. saw you did QS today, and commented but i was wayyyy late to that party.. by the way SG is on crack if she thinks any other astros player will be better than berkman in 3 years

Quote

He won’t be the player then that he is now but you will want some veteran leadership in that team. Who would be a better candidate than LB?

Quote

Berkman, other than last year which at this point I think is a fluke, hasn’t declined at all.

Quote

since berkman starting playing full time in the league (2000) he has had ONE season with an OPS below .900.. and that year he missed it by 4 points.. he’s right up with there with pujols..

Quote

Also, Wandy Rodriguez is underrated… very solid pitcher has been great at home. A rotation of Oswalt (if he gets healthy ASAP), Wolf, Rodriguez and Backe could make a run.

Big Puma strikes fear in the heart of every pitcher out there… he’s a beast.

august you are a big homer than me.. wow

Quote

Aw, how cute, the little kids are sticking together! Talk to me when you can legally buy alcohol.

meow…

Quote

august west, make a run for what? 3rd place?

Quote

Anywhere between 28-32 is where most (normal) players hit their peak. Barry peaking at 40 is another story altogether. I think the Astros need to find another player, maybe better than Berkman, maybe not, but someone to really complement him before they can think about getting swept out of the WS again.

Quote

I think Nolan Ryan is still in his peak. They should see about getting him.

Quote

They’ve been a great second half team over the years, and I’ve got nothing else to watch until football starts… don’t crush this for me.

Quote

@ fetch: don’t you still get a trophy for 3rd?

Quote

maybe they’ll trade for carlos beltran again.

also, trivia question: Who was the only commenter in this thread who didn’t present actual rational discussion? And the correct answer is not irishmafia

Quote

.17487

thats the playoff odds for the astros (1-100 %) according to BP..enjoy august

7.81356

and that is the percentage for YOUR 2 time champion marlins… (so you’re telling me theres a chance?!)

Quote

Jon Rauch traded to DBacks……that probably would have been a much better topic for a post. Although Sportsgal would probably call me out if I said Justin Upton was good.

Quote

fetch, who’s going to close now for the nats?

Quote

noooo idea, but i need to figure it out soon cause i have jon rauch on my fantasy team and i only have like a 4 save lead.

Quote

quick look at the bullpen..they have ayala, colome,or shell.. yikes

Quote

just got word it will be ayala or hanranhan.. adjust accordingly

Quote

Sweet job by stigs getting UTL up on time. What an ass hat.

/insincere

Quote

Hanrahan looks to have the better stats.

Is he the favorite?

Quote

not sure who the “favorite” is.. just that those are 2 guys…but i picked up both just in case

Quote

i have been saying it for a couple months now….but the ironic addition to the yanks rotation is closer than you think

Carl Pavano coming back soon?

Quote

My league isn’t deep enough to pick up both. I’d have to drop Swisher, which I don’t want to do.

Quote

i dont even think swisher is on a team in our league.. he’s been pretty bad this year esp. by conventional fantasy stats.. hell he has been bad everywhere.. ops in the 700’s? ugly

Quote

Need him at 1B-OF until Papi gets off the DL.

Quote

It’s an OBP league, so he’s not completely useless.

Quote

i imagine your league nick, having ONLY stats like OBP, OPS, EQA, VORP, SNLVR etc lol…

cubs just called up jeff samaradiza

Quote

i don’t follow the minors too much. what were his numbers cortes?

Quote

if it was just me, it would be the 4 linear weight and nothing else.

Quote

i only mention it, because he was the former notre dame receiver.. played with brady quinn.. i’m pretty sure his numbers weren’t too good.. but his fastball touches 98

Quote

i always thought he could have played in the NFL in the Ed McCaffrey mold.
